Boys and Girls Club Unity Project - The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe is involved with the Youth Task Force through a variety of programs, activities and opportunities. The club’s UNITY PROJECT targets youth in the 6th-12th grades, providing an opportunity for them to “UNITE”, break down barriers, and explore and express their passion: be it art, music, or sports. For High School students, the Boys & Girls Club offers youth the opportunity to become Jr. Volunteers at the club. With shared vision, the Boys & Girls club is able to offer a safe and positive place for youth to spend their out of school time. Little Latinas - Established in September 08 in response to a generous donation from a local community member looking to establish services for Latina females in South Lake Tahoe. The Little Latinas has grown to include weekly meetings led by local high school students as well as a monthly activity (with a physical activity emphasis) led by Tahoe Youth and Family Services. The mission of the Little Latinas is to prevent teenage pregnancy as well as gang involvement by teaching young girls a strong sense of identity and confidence. The teens involved also benefit from the program by being a positive role model and providing natural mentorships to the younger girls.
